Steven C. Oldham
President and Chief Executive Officer
SureWest Communications and its subsidiaries
Steve Oldham became president and CEO of SureWest Communications on January 1, 2006. In this role, he has led several growth initiatives at SureWest to proactively transition the company to a full-service Internet, TV and telephone provider offering superior broadband services in geographically diverse markets. As a result, revenues from SureWest’s core broadband segment have grown significantly and now exceed revenues from the traditional telecom segment for the first time in the company’s history.
Under Oldham’s leadership, SureWest has divested non-core assets while expanding its broadband network into the greater Kansas City region in 2008 and continuing to expand its best-in-class fiber-to-the-home network to more homes in the Sacramento region. SureWest differentiates itself from the competition by delivering superior products over the highest performing and most reliable networks in the markets it serves while providing best-in-class customer service.
Oldham currently serves as chairman of the USTelecom Association, the premier broadband trade association representing service providers and suppliers. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for Hawaiian Telcom, which is the state’s leading telecommunications provider. He has been a member of SureWest’s Board of Directors since January 2004 and was chair of the SureWest Audit Committee from June 2004 through December 2005.
Prior to joining SureWest, Oldham served in many capacities during a 27-year career with Sierra Pacific Resources, including vice president, regulation and treasurer (1994 to 1995), vice president, information resources, corporate redesign and merger transactions (1995 to 1996), vice president, transmission business group and strategic development (1996 to 1999), senior vice president, corporate development and strategic planning (1999 to 2001), and ultimately retiring as senior vice president, energy services in 2002.
After retiring from Sierra Pacific Resources, Oldham served as a senior advisor to The Brattle Group, which provides consulting services and expert testimony on economic, finance, regulatory and strategic issues.
Oldham earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1976 from the University of Utah after spending three years in the United States Army Security Agency. He is past president of the Board of Directors of the Washoe Arc, an organization providing services to developmentally disabled adults in Northern Nevada.
Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Oldham resided in Reno, NV for 30 years prior to moving to Meadow Vista, California. He and his wife, Sue, an environmental and water attorney, have two daughters, Kelly and Katie. He and his family are avid leaders in the community and enjoy a number of recreational activities including boating, sailing, snow skiing and bicycling. |
